Adult Swim's Premier New Show of 2025 Gets a Substantial Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, Adult Swim welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the network unveiled a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often characterized by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."

A President's Endorsement

In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and championed its distinctly quirky style.

"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about following this endearing family navigate their everyday routines.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to help comedy break out of its current cynical streak. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

The Path Forward

Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially help usher in that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to experience the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
