The acclaimed British actress Mirren, previously winner of an Oscar, four Baftas, three Golden Globes, five Emmys, along with a Tony Award, will soon earn an additional major award to her trophy case: the Cecil B. DeMille Golden Globe career honor.

Honors Presentation

Dame Helen, 80, previously honored as a dame back in 2003 and made a Bafta fellow in 2014, will pick up the award during a presentation on 8 January, just prior to the Golden Globes main event occur, during an event billed by the Golden Globes as the Golden Eve event.

Also part of the event will be the bestowal of the organization’s Carol Burnett award for television achievement, the honoree for which is still to be revealed. The prior year’s honorees included Viola Davis and Ted Danson.

“Helen Mirren is a force of nature, and her professional journey is truly extraordinary,” said the Golden Globes president, president of the Golden Globes. “Her transcendent performances and commitment to her craft constantly motivate generations of artists and viewers as well. It’s a tremendous privilege to award her the DeMille prize.”

Professional Journey

Mirren gained prominence in the 1970s via important performances in theater at London’s West End and with the Royal Shakespeare Company as well as in movies like O Lucky Man!, Caligula & The Long Good Friday.

During the nineties, her starring role in the investigative show Prime Suspect broadened her fanbase even more. Other important films include Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park and Calendar Girls.

She received an Oscar for her performance as Elizabeth II in the cinematic work The Queen, a character she reprised back in 2013 within The Audience, Peter Morgan’s play about the meetings involving the monarch and the PM Margaret Thatcher, a performance for which she earned a Tony in 2015.

Current and Forthcoming Appearances

• Later-career movies comprise Hitchcock, The Last Station, Woman in Gold, The Debt, Golda & Barbie, which she narrated.
• Mirren’s turn in the streaming adaptation of The Thursday Murder Club has also been praised and honors speculation is increasing around her performance as a dying matriarch in Kate Winslet’s directorial debut, Goodbye June.
• Upcoming, Mirren will be seen in the role of Patricia Highsmith in the drama by Anton Corbijn, Switzerland.

Globes nominations are set to be revealed on the eighth of December, featuring the film by Paul Thomas Anderson One Battle After Another, Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet and Coogler’s Sinners likely to receive multiple nominations.
