Former Physician Charged with Assault Allegations Involving 38 Individuals in His Care
Prosecutors report that a former doctor stands accused of performing sexual assaults involving 38 individuals who were patients.
Details of the Grave Charges
Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of dozens of sexual offences – including acts against children younger than 13 – between 2017 and 2021.
A deputy chief prosecutor commented, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to support a thorough and intricate police inquiry, meticulously examining the available evidence to determine that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”
Scope of the Police Inquiry
The charges come after what investigators described as a “complex investigation” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.
Spencer is due to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.

The charging documents outline the forty-five sexual offences include:
- 15 counts of sexual assault.
- Seventeen counts of penetrative assault.
- Nine counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
- 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
- One count of attempted penetrative assault.
