Realistically, they'd hope for an Ashes series in Australia where they remain in contention to reclaim the urn following the initial matches.

This is not the case this time, though, after Australia's crushing 82-run win in Adelaide gave Australia 3-0 up for the fourth successive Ashes series on their own soil.

The loyal traveling fans, the vocal contingent, have thousands of supporters making the journey for the final two Tests in the SCG and MCG.

Furthermore, other tour groups who will spend the Christmas period down under, as well as families and friends embarking on a dream holiday.

The Ryding Siblings

The Ryding siblings are a prime example.

Alex, Sam, Rory and Katie had their itineraries and entry credentials booked for the fourth and fifth Tests "well ahead of time", anticipating a historic English victory.

Sadly, they've observed Australia dismantle the tourists in just under two weeks from their house in their hometown.

"All my colleagues has been making comments about it being over for the last two weeks," stated Sam Ryding.

"Our expectation had been that we would have a meaningful contest upon our arrival."

Fading Positivity

Optimism was high regarding the team's prospects of ending their 15-year wait for a triumph on Australian soil before it began.

But they are now looking at the possibility of extending their winless run in the country to 19 matches when the fourth Test gets under way in Melbourne on Thursday, 25 December.

The tourists - and their supporters - will be keen to prevent a whitewash.

It was mentioned that the "thrill and enjoyment" of head coach Brendon McCullum's 'Bazball' in recent times had "renewed interest in" the five-day game for England fans.

However, the group said they had minimal hopes for the remaining matches - and all they are asking for from the players is "a bit of fight".

"Commentators consistently points it out, but it all hinges on psychological strength. 'The aggressive approach has been turned into a buzzword now that is just, like, impractical batting," stated Rory Ryding.

"Over the course of five days, you should hunker down. Wafting outside 'outside the line has not been part of the coaching manuals, and that is primarily due to the frontline batsmen."

Looking Ahead

Asked whether he believed England will secure a victory in the current series, one fan responded: "It appears the Aussies are just too good at the moment."

"There is going to have to be several individuals that delivers for the team and turns the game."

Even with the series lost, the group remains excited about the trip.

"It will be a great time regardless," added another sibling. "Our approach is that mindset."

"Obviously it is disappointing we don't have more to play for, but we have invested a significant amount as it is."

"We plan to savor spending the festive season out there. It is also mine and Rory's first time traveling at this time of year."

A teacher, Katie is determined to make the most of the lengthy journey as part of her Christmas holidays.

"As a backup plan, I've got golf to fall back on," she added.
