Jujutsu Kaisen: The Execution Film Seeks to Resolve the Anime's Major Issue
JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution isn't exactly an original movie. Rather, the latest movie from the Jujutsu Kaisen fantasy saga serves as a collection of the series' second installment stitched together with the opening installments of its third season, which launches the Culling Games narrative from the manga series. This makes Execution, which recently received a latest teaser, the first way to watch the start of the next season ahead of its 2026 January debut. The feature launches in Japan on Nov. 7, and in the United States and Canada on December 5.
The Culling Games Arc
In the Culling Games storyline, Special Grade sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu is introduced in the television series and is tasked by jujutsu higher-ups to take down his classmate Yuji Itadori. Their much-anticipated fight unfolds for the first time on the cinema screen, and if the animation team at Mappa have something as special as installments 40 and 41 in store for fans this festive season, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may end up being the gift that fans have anticipated.
The Thunderclap Issue
"Thunderclap episodes" from season two is frequently praised as a top-tier scene in animated series lore, in spite of all the controversy in 2023 when the series first premiered. It was claimed that the creators were enduring tight schedules to the point, and the final version that premiered at the time was not fully polished and reportedly not what the artists first envisioned.
The Legendary Fight
The episode features a much-hyped confrontation between two strong jujutsu users, Sukuna and Mahoraga. It includes innovative art style, superb cinematography, and thrilling combat. A later Blu-ray release gave the animators a chance to include extra footage to enhance the battle. So it appeared likely Execution could enhance the fight further. However, viewing the new trailer, it's unclear if that battle has undergone further polishing. It'd be a shame if it hadn't, because a scene of that magnitude has to be watched on the biggest screen with the optimal viewing experience.
The Second Season's Triumph
The sophomore season of JuJutsu Kaisen elevated the franchise to become the top anime of the year, and when the two-part finale were premiered one after another, it was the topic of conversation for weeks in the animation fandom. Audiences knew about the issues behind the scenes, which made them appreciate what they saw even more. People anxiously checked to see if the Blu-ray, released on March 18, would feature extra content to the battle or to see if it was polished at all, and were overjoyed to see precisely that, alongside color corrections, more motion, and altered color palette.
The Movie's Opportunity
But the physical release can only refine what has initially broadcast in the television version, whereas the movie has the potential to properly present the moment with more adjustments and completely new animated sequences.
A Masterpiece
Currently, these pair of installments serve as the masterpiece of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be handled with care by the animation team, especially considering the controversy they encountered at the time. It's captured the interest of anime fans all over the globe, and the Culling Games is a much-expected plotline of the following year. If the production company wants to start the year off right, showcase the anime's greatest sequence once again in theaters with the finest version we've witnessed to date.
