A man from Australia who vaulted past a barrier and reached for celebrity Ariana Grande has been expelled and prohibited from Singapore.

Johnson Wen, aged 26, was sentenced to more than a week in jail for causing a public disturbance and has now been "barred from re-entering Singapore," the country's border control told Singaporean press.

He forced his way past photographers and charged at the actress and singer, who was participating in the regional launch for the musical adaptation on November 13. Co-performer Cynthia Erivo pulled him back from Grande.

Wen has a history of disrupting concerts and celebrity events, including rushing the stage at the pop star's Australian show in June this year.

The occurrence caused anger in Singapore, with many claiming he of causing further distress to the star.

The celebrity has discussed dealing with PTSD after a explosive incident at her performance in the UK city in spring of 2017 killed 22 people and affected hundreds.

Throughout the court proceedings, the judge was informed he had made efforts to breach on the movie's debut multiple times, according to regional reports.

He then made a follow-up try to cross the barriers. Protection personnel prevented him and restrained him.

Wen later posted videos expressing gratitude to the star for permitting his access and said he was "released."

Police arrested him the next day and accused him with causing a disturbance, to which Wen pleaded guilty.

The District Judge the judicial official was referenced by a news outlet as saying that he was looking for publicity, commenting that he was mistaken to assume he would not face any penalties.

Grande has not spoken about the situation.

The co-star spoke about the event to NBC, saying that she "simply desired to ensure my colleague was protected."

"I think he had no intention to us harm, but you can't predict with such situations, and I wanted to ensure that she was fine. That was my first instinct," she stated.
