Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's natural for questions to be asked about his future after another heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in 12 matches, representing the team's poorest streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got a lot of backing from above,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it is normal that people question you.”
He noted, “I accept my position. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Talks with Club Management
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I perceive the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Response
Slot highlighted known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones said.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a period of this nature with outcomes this poor.”
He finished, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we’re always going to compete.”
“We’re going to try to help the side back to the top, show everyone once more the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the world.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
