The Reds Refuses to Change Offensive Approach Amid Recent Slump, Insists Head Coach Slot
Liverpool's head coach has revealed that the team leadership agree with his assessment regarding the recent downturn and he has no intention of discarding their offensive approach in quest for a improvement. The head coach admitted that six defeats in seven matches was below standard ahead of the weekend fixture with Villa.
Growing Expectations Throughout Difficult Period
Liverpool's coach recognized the expectations were high before his altered lineup were eliminated from the Carabao Cup against Crystal Palace. However, he emphasized that this need to reverse the decline is not coming from the team's proprietors or football administration following a significant spending of almost £450m.
"They say similar things," commented Slot, whose squad will encounter Los Blancos in the continental tournament and play against Manchester City in the domestic competition.
Team Strength Continues Undoubted
The coach is convinced his team "boast a remarkable roster if they are completely available and completely set for the programme we are facing". He noted that the summer investment in players such as the German international and Alexander Isak, who is likely to miss out again against Aston Villa through physical problems, had left the club "in such a good place for the near future and the long-term future".
Gelling Difficulties
When questioned about why his team were taking so long to gel, he replied: "That's not particularly helpful. 'Why, why, why?' I give an explanation and people say I'm making justifications. I can come up with five or six reasons why we are not winning as much or experiencing losses as we do but, as I say every time, there are insufficient justifications to have a results sequence as we had now."
- No matter if I could identify multiple factors
- When you are Liverpool you must avoid losses
- In truth six defeats in seven games
Defensive Statistics
Only Burnley (21) have faced more big chances from normal situations this season than Liverpool (19). The league leaders, the North London club, have faced two. Yet Liverpool's coach rejects the team has been overly exposed and asserts there is no reason to sacrifice his attacking principles for a defensive approach after ten fixtures without a goalless performance.
"From my perspective we don't conceding a lot of chances so I find no basis to change our playing style totally but we need to do better in keeping clean sheets," he declared.
Recent Examples
"When facing United, how many chances did we concede? When playing Frankfurt when we were leading 3-1, we barely allowed a shot on target. In each fixture we have played so far we haven't given up a many opportunities. Absolutely not. We do allow a somewhat more than last season but that has to do with us being trailing by a goal so you take a bit more risk. But overall I don't feel that our issue is that we concede too many chances. Our challenge is we don't score the opportunities we generate."
